Fear

If we allow it, fear can play a powerful role in our lives.

Fear can subtly direct our decisions in a very debilitating way, causing us to make choices that a person walking in faith might not make.

Fear can creep in through worrying about our finances, our future spouse, our children’s future, our job stability, our concern over how others view us – fear.

So, if you are living with some fear right now – know that you are not alone!

It is something that everyone deals with at one point or another and deals with in very different ways.

I have found one of the best ways to overcome my fear is by inundating myself with God’s word and allowing my fears to be set up against the truth I have in Scripture. Often the powerful promises in God’s word remind me of what I have in Him and bring my fears back to reality.

So this morning, let these passages on fear remind you of what you have in Christ. Soak these in and let them infuse you with confidence and boldness as you handle each decision:

Psalm 34:4-5

4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me
    and delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant,
    and their faces shall never be ashamed.

Psalm 23:4

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

Psalm 27:1

27 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?

Isaiah 41:10

10 fear not, for I am with you;
    be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Matthew 10:28

28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Luke 12:32

32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Hebrews 13:6

6 So we can confidently say,

“The Lord is my helper;
    I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”

1 John 4:18

18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Matthew 6:25-30

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

So friends, walk in confidence today!

We are “more than conquerors through Him who loved us” and there is nothing that we will face today that is too big for our God!

Blessings,

Pastor Dave
