Colossians 1:9-14 / Praying Colossians 1.

Today, let’s pray through Paul’s prayer for the Colossian church together:

9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

Lord, we pray that you would give us with this kind of knowledge. We ask to be filled to the brim with spiritual wisdom, helping us decipher the world around us through a spiritual lens and making daily decisions that honor You! Help us to see the world as You see it and respond to those around us who don’t know Jesus with compassionate love.

10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Lord, we ask for this wisdom in order to live each day like You! We want our lives to reflect the Gospel that has changed us so dramatically. Let this godly wisdom result in a life that pleases You. We pray that our lives are fruitful for the Kingdom of God, seeing many come to a saving faith and carrying out generations of discipleship.

11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Lord, we readily admit that nothing good we can do can happen apart from You! We need the power of the Holy Spirit to help us continue on this journey of faith. You promise us a great future, but before we receive that we want to live out our days on earth well. Give us the patience and endurance to keep going. Help us to have joy despite any circumstance that would try and extinguish joy. Help us to praise You in every moment, for you are worthy!

13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Lord, thank You for this forgiveness! We praise You, for you have brought us out of the darkness and into the light. You’ve made us sons and daughters alongside Your Son. Thank you, Jesus, for this redemption – this payment for sin on our behalf!

Lord, may we walk each day in light of these truths we’ve just prayed.

Blessings,

Pastor Dave
