James 1:17/ Acknowledge ALL the Good

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." James 1:17

Which is bigger: the sun, or a quarter? Obviously, the sun is much bigger than a quarter. But if you close one eye and hold a quarter up to the sun you can block the entire sun from view!

 As we prepare to give thanks tomorrow, let's open both eyes to the giver of good gifts! I want to be aware of the sheer volume of God's gifts in our lives. I think often times the few things we don't have can be like the quarter, blocking our view of all the good God has given us. We can let the things we long for, which are often a relatively small portion of all the gifts we will have in life, get all of our attention and keep us from giving thanks for the massive volume of things we do have.

 The bible says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of light …" How many good and perfect gifts do you have in your life? If you started counting you might spend the rest of your life tallying them up! And according to the bible, God has given you every single one of them.

 Let's plan to earnestly lay our longings down for a day tomorrow. We can pick them up again later, and God will surely provide. But for tomorrow, let's focus on the radiance of the Father of lights, who is our generous God!

"The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
to one who orders his way rightly
I will show the salvation of God!” Psalm 50:23
