Proverbs 3:5-6 / Acknowledge.

Proverbs 3:5-6 / Acknowledge.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

My wife and I are currently knee-deep in the construction of an addition to our house.  This addition has been a laborious, two-year process, that we have been grateful to walk through with a good friend and contractor we trust.

All throughout the process there have been questions about this detail or that, and many times, when talking to the architect or to a sub-contractor they will look at me and ask the question – to which I will look at our contractor and ask him.

Our contractor has been in construction for over 25 years, and he knows a thing or two.  It would be foolish for me to answer a question I have very little knowledge about when I have an expert standing right beside me.  Therefore, I acknowledge his presence and wisdom – and turn to him for counsel.

The same is true of our relationship with Christ.

We have the Creator of the Universe by our side at all times!  Through Christ, we have access to the Ultimate Guide.  We have an audience with the One who made our brains, formed our bodies, and gave us our unique personalities and characteristics that make us, us.

And the writer of this proverb is saying, TRUST HIM!

Why rely on your limited knowledge and ability when you could tap into the Source?

Trust Him with ALL your heart.

Let Him into the deepest aspects of who you are.

Open up about the hard questions and the scary thoughts.  Truth is, He already knows them anyway.

So trust Him.

And in everything you do – ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, recognizing his presence and wisdom and inviting him in for counsel and direction.

What do you think would change about your life if you acknowledged God in each and every aspect on a daily basis?

If you recognized and respected God enough to invite him into your family life – seeking guidance in how to lead and love them well?

Or you acknowledged His power in what seems like a hopeless situation?  And in doing so, laid that challenge at His feet in humble recognition of the fact that He knows best and can do as He sovereignly sees fit.

What if instead of worrying, you accepted the reality that God is in control?  That His wisdom is perfect and so is His love for you?

Acknowledging God in all things means we recognize Him for the good God that He is, and we invite Him into every aspect of our lives.  And then as we hear His direction, we walk in loving, humble obedience.

Acknowledge the Lord today.  When faced with a decision or asked a question you don’t know, recognize Him for who He truly is and turn to Him with confidence, knowing that He gives wisdom “generously and without reproach.”

My challenge to you this week is to consciously work on acknowledging the power and presence of God in your life.  Give Him thanks for the good things, and humbly walk through the challenging aspects of life trusting in Him, knowing that He loves you and cares for you deeply.

Lord, we want to trust you fully.  Help us to recognize the areas where we are leaning on our own understanding, and in humble recognition, acknowledge your presence and power in our lives.  We love you Lord, we trust you.  Guide us and give us the strength we need to obey!

Blessings,

Pastor Dave
