Luke 12:32-34 / Fear Not

Luke 12:32-34 / Fear Not

““Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

In this passage, Jesus was teaching the disciples and His other followers how to live for Him. He’s just spent ten verses pointing them to the goodness and trustworthiness of God; reminding them that the One who clothes the fields with beautiful flowers and knows the plight of the lowly sparrow cares deeply for them.

And then He says this beautiful line:

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

It is God’s good pleasure. His GOOD pleasure!

To do what? To give us the KINGDOM.

This Kingdom He is giving is no small thing, either. It is God’s complete rule and reign over all things! It is eternity spent in His presence! It is the reward of the faithful that cannot be erased, eroded, or equaled by anything on this planet.

That is His Kingdom! That is what we live for!

So what does Jesus say this truth should lead us to?

No fear: we have a good God who delights in giving us these good things. Why fear? What will we need that He won’t provide?

No false securities: if we trust Him, the grip of possessions has no hold on us. We can sell what we have. We can give to the poor. Instead of allowing what we own to make us feel secure in this life, we will rest in the secure arms of God.

No false idols: the heart is a fickle thing. Jesus knows that our hearts often follow our focus. What we allow to become most important in our life has our heart. If we give all to God, believing that He is a good Father who desires to give us good things, we will be less likely to stray away to other lovers to fill us up.

As you go through this week, ask the Lord to reveal any fears, false idols, or false securities in your life, and then take each one and lay them down at His feet.

With much love,

Pastor Dave
