The Lord our Keeper

Psalm 121 / The Lord Our Keeper.

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?

2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.

4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.

6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.

8 The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.

This morning you might be looking at your current situation and asking yourself the same question King David did, “From where does my help come?”

Although you might not feel like the Lord is close this morning, if you know Him, He is with you right now. He has put His Spirit inside of you to lead, guide, and comfort you.

So, like David, I wanted to remind us some truths about our great God:

  1. He is our Helper – As Jesus ascended back to Heaven He promised to send the Spirit as our Helper.

  2. He is our Creator – The One who made heaven and earth has granted you direct access through Christ’s death on the cross. So enter the throne room of grace with confidence!

  3. He is Vigilant – Another way of translating the word for “keeps” is “protects.” The One who keeps you is not sleeping – He vigilantly watches over you. There is nothing happening to you that God does not see and care about.

  4. He is Close – The One who protects you is at your right hand. He is nearby, He is close, He will protect you.

  5. He Fights our Battles – If we will follow Him and stay close, He will fight our battles for us. He will keep us from “all evil.” Though we experience the pain of sin in this world, sin and evil have no power over us. Oh death, where is your sting?

  6. He is Eternal – Unlike our other sources of comfort and security, God “will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” His love and care will never leave – He will never walk away – He will never fail.

As you go about your day, let these powerful truths about our powerful God comfort you!

With much love,

Pastor Dave
