1 Corinthians 12:12-20 / We need you!

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

The human body is truly amazing.

Did you know that there are 100 billion neurons in the human body carrying information throughout the nervous system, and if those nerves were stretched out they would extend 45 miles? God in His wisdom laid out a system of communication that keeps our whole body connected and functioning in the way it was intended.

The same Creator who so intricately brought together every nerve, muscle, and cell also brought together each person at Roots Community Church. As the Apostle Paul points out to the Corinthian church, and to us today, each person in our church body is vitally important! We have different giftings, different roles, and different circles of influence, and all of those come together to make a thriving community that is effective for the Kingdom of God.

God intends for each and every person at Roots to be intentionally on mission for Christ! We are all sinners saved by grace who now have a calling to “go and make disciples” and to see as many people as possible come to know that same grace we’ve received.

Sadly, I’ve noticed throughout the years that many churches have a common misconception about the Body of Christ. Although they would say the church is a body as a whole, they believe and act as if the majority of the ministry should be left up to the pastor, staff, or ministry leaders.

Many Christians today attend a church as a spectator not a participant.

Many Christians in the church today do not see themselves as important to the function of the church, when Paul is saying the complete opposite.

Believers, your church needs you!

The other members of your church need you! God brought you to your church for a reason, and He wants to use you to help your church fully live out its calling. Every single believer being intentionally on mission is crucial for Kingdom growth.

So today, as you think about your perspective on church and your personal ministry, remember, God has placed you exactly where He wants you to make disciples and bring Him glory. And He desires for every believer to see their life, regardless of vocation, as a ministry.

Let’s be the church, together.

Blessings,

Pastor Dave
